There's only one place in Miami where you can fill up the tank, load up on soft drinks and snacks AND rub elbows with Cuban celebrities -- The Red Bird Amoco: "The Gateway to Coral Gables." Don't be surprised if you see someone you recognize here. If not one of several Hollywood stars, you're practically guaranteed to see one of those famous Three Guys From Miami -- Raúl Musibay! That's because Raúl is the manager of this fine establishment.

Havana Café looks like the last outpost of true Cuban cooking in Phoenix -- They certainly have one of the largest menus we've seen anywhere. From a good selection of tapas (Spanish appetizers) in the Arriba room upstairs to a large selection of desserts, Havana Café has it all! With a strong local Mexican population in the area, it's no surprise that several dishes have a distinct Mexican influence.
However, most dishes remain true to their Cuban origins, so most Cuban food fanatics won't leave dis-appointed. Start out your meal with an appetizer. Perfectly made yuca frita (French fried yuca) is always a delight to discover on any menu. Here they're called "Calypso Chips." We're not sure what these chips have to do with West Indies music, but they do come with a very delicious black bean salsa for dipping -- a very nice addition!
The Cuban-style tamales are also very good here. Not hot and spicy like a Mexican tamal, but rich with the flavors of corn, onion, garlic and green pepper. The mariscos con salsa verde is a nice dish packed with seafood -- shrimp, mussels, clams, lobster, and a lot of calamari.
Raúl and Cuban singing sensation Albita!
Fill up the tank and ask for Raúl's autograph! He might even tell you about some "hot spots" for catching your own REALLY BIG fish! Red Bird Amoco is also famous for great service and top notch mechanics. If your car needs repairs and you want an honest mechanic, this is the place to go. While your car is being serviced, shop for ceramics, have lunch...
