- Keith Famie's Cookbook
This is one cookbook we have to like, mainly because we're in it! You might remember our first appearance on Keith Famie's Adventures one year ago this month.
This book is a companion to the Food Network television series. It is chock-full with more than 130 recipes from Africa, Australia, the South Pacific, Mexico, Seattle, and of course, Miami! We gave Keith permission to use a few of our recipes. He also wrote some nice things about the Three Guys from Miami and his visit here. For our part, we enjoyed a very long day showing him around and fixing him a big Cuban meal.

From the book: "Eventually, I find the Three Guys from Miami inside a fabulous pastry shop at the corner of 8th and 27th. Cubans make some of the world's most wonderful pastry, a legacy of the homeland's abundant sugarcane crop. Even so, dessert will come in its time; first, the Three Guys from Miami are going to prepare a fully loaded Cuban supper for me.
The three guys, brothers-in-law Raúl Musibay, Glenn Lindgren, and Jorge Castillo, are in love with all things Cuban, and collectively they've spent years tasting, cooking, and refining the techniques of the Cuban kitchen." (more)

Ry Cooder, the American guitarist who produced the Buena Vista Social Club project, is back with another Cuban music gem. This time he has teamed up with Cuban guitar legend Manuel Galbán, on a great new album called "Mambo Sinuendo."
The Cuban combo sound will bring back many memories from Cuba in the 50s and 60s, a time when Cuban music and American pop were blended by many local bands. If you liked Buena Vista Social Club, you will love Mambo Sinuendo...(more)

- Help Us Celebrate:
- Sign Up to Win a
- FREE T-Shirt!
Wow, when we started this site in 1996 we had no idea that it would eventually be seen by two million people! On May 3, 2003 we recorded our two millionth unique visitor. That's two million people who now know a little more about Cuban culture and Cuban food! (If only everyone had sent us a dollar! We could all quit our "real" jobs and work on the site 80 hours per week, instead of the usual 40!)
What a long, strange trip it's been!
From the day we spent off the coast of the Florida Keys in a small fishing boat -- the day we gave birth to our idea for a website -- to our recent appearance with Tyler Florence on the Food Network, we could have never imagined all the great things that would happen for us.
We have you, our readers, to thank for our success and we wanted to give a few of you a token of our appreciation!

Would you like to win a great shirt?
To help celebrate our 7th Anniversary on the web (July 9, 2003), we're giving away some of our Three Guys from Miami Tee-shirts! We will draw names at random from people who enter our contest.

A Wedding!

Raúl gives away his only daughter Onix in marriage to Mr. Carlos Sanchez of Miami. The wedding was held on Saturday, May 24 at St. Hugh's Catholic Church in Coral Gables. A reception followed at the Miami Hilton.
The lucky couple is honey-mooning on a cruise to the Virgin Islands. Onix and Carlos will make their home in Miami.

Boliche
Boliche is Cuban pot roast. A slit is made in a beef roast and it is stuffed with chorizo and possibly onions, green pepper, garlic and spices.
Sometimes ham is used in place of the chorizo. The pork gives the beef a smoky flavor.
Over the years we've developed our own boliche recipe. Many people like to make this in a pressure cooker, and we frequently do to. This recipe works great right on top of the stove.... (more)
Guisado de Chorizo y Papas

Hungry for a delicious stew brimming with chunks of sausage and potatoes? This hearty dish makes an excellent entrée. Pair it up with a fresh loaf of Cuban bread and a good red wine and you have an excellent dinner!
The key to this dish is to use a good, Spanish chorizo. Do not use the Mexican chorizo, which is soft and doesn't taste anything like Spanish chorizo!.. (more)

Velorio
A velorio is a Cuban wake. Traditionally held in the deceased's own home (though now just as likely to be held at a funeral home) the velorio features an open casket, so everyone gets one last look at the departed.
Cuban wakes are not quiet affairs. There is a lot of loud talking and yes, even laughter at many wakes. A velorio is a time to get together with old friends and family members, drink café, and talk about everything from sports to politics. Many Velorios include a pretty elaborate spread of food.
In Cuba, the velorio normally lasted all night, with a least a person or two staying with the deceased until the funeral mass and burial the next day.
