Jorge Castillo: The best are made with yerbabuena. If you have a Latin market in your neighborhood, you might be able to find some. It has to be fresh!

Glenn Lindgren: If not, use spearmint -- again fresh from the garden. It's the best substitute.

Ultimate Mojito Recipe

Total time: 5 minutes
Yield: 1 serving

A delicious and refreshing drink for a hot August day in Miami!


3 teaspoons sugar
1/2 lime (juice)
3 yerbabuena (or mint) leaves
1 1/2 ounces rum
4 ounces soda water (to taste)

Put sugar and lime juice in a glass. Crush a few fresh mint leaves into the sugar and the lime juice. Add 1 and 1/2 ounces of rum and ice cubes. Fill with soda water and serve with a sprig of mint.
